Životopis
Dr.sc. Sven Lončarić diplomirao je na Elektrotehničkom fakultetu (ETF) u Zagrebu 1985. godine, magistrirao je elektrotehniku na ETF-u u Zagrebu, 1989. Bio je dobitnik Fulbright-ove stipendije i doktoriirao je na 1994. godine University of Cincinnati, SAD u području obrade i analize slike. Od 1996. godine docent je na FER-u. Od 2001-2003. godine bio je profesor na sveučilištu New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, SAD. Od 2001. godine je izvanredni profesor na FER-u, od 2006. godine redoviti profesor, a od 2011. godine redoviti profesor u trajnom zvanju u području elektrotehnike i u području računarstva. Područje njegovog istraživačkog interesa su digitalna obrada slika i računalni vid. Bio je voditelj više istraživačkih i razvojnih projekata u području obrade i analize slika uključujući primjene u medicini, automobilskoj industriji i vizualnoj inspekciji kvalitete u proizvodnji. Sa svojim doktorandima i suradnicima objavio je više od 200 znanstvenih i stručnih radova u međunarodnim časopisima i na skupovima. Jedan je od najviše citiranih znanstvenika u području tehničkih znanosti u Hrvatskoj. Bio je predstojnik Zavoda za elektroničke sustave i obradbu informacija FER-a. Osnivač je i voditelj Centra izvrsnosti za računalni vid na Sveučilištu u Zagrebu. Voditelj je istraživačkog laboratorija za obradu slike na FER-u. Predsjednik je Odbora za razvoj biomedicinskog inženjerstva na Sveučilištu u Zagrebu. Suvoditelj je nacionalnog Znanstvenog centra izvrsnosti za znanost o podatcima i kooperativne sustave. Stariji je član IEEE i redoviti član Akademije tehničkih znanosti Hrvatske. Prof. Lončarić je dobitnik više nagrada za znanstveni i stručni rad uključujući Nagradu za znanost FER-a, Zlatnu plaketu "Josip Lončar" FER-a, Nagradu "Fran Bošnjaković" Sveučilišta u Zagrebu i Nagradu "Rikard Podhorsky" Akademije tehničkih znanosti Hrvatske.

Autor je više od 180 publikacija. Dr. Lončarić je bio glavni urednik međunarodnog znanstvenog časopisa „Journal of Computing and Information Technology“. Od 2005-2008. godine obnašao je funkciju predsjednika Hrvatske sekcije IEEE. Utemeljio je niz međunarodnih znanstvenih skupova pod nazivom „Image and Signal Processing and Analysis“. Bio je član programskih odbora za više od 30 međunarodnih znanstvenih skupova. Od 2008-2010. bio je predstojnik Zavoda za elektroničke sustave i obradbu informacija. Član je IEEE i Akademije tehničkih znanosti Hrvatske.
