Discount for Croatian language courses with Croaticum

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) has signed an agreement with Croaticum – Centre for Croatian as a Second and Foreign Language - affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb - to provide Croatian language courses to interested international students and postdoctoral researchers at discounted prices.

The two types of courses offered under this agreement include:

1) Short Semester Course of the Croatian Language and Culture (details)

This course (75 hrs/semester) has initially been designed for Erasmus+ exchange students, and is intended for beginners. The course load is 2 x 2 hours of lectures per week (plus time for individual/independent study, as needed), over 15 weeks/semester. Successful completion of the course (and passing a language test) corresponds to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) level A2. It is, in general, possible to re-register for that course to progress to the next level (B1.1) and beyond, pending a minimum number of enrollments. Non-beginners can take a placement test to establish their current language proficiency level so that they can be assigned to an appropriate group. The full listed price of this course is 450 EUR, and the discounted price for employees and students at FER is 325.17 EUR.

2) (Full) Semester Course of the Croatian Language and Culture (details)

The regular semester course (225 hrs/semester) is available for CEFRL levels from A1 to C1. Please note this is a high-intensity course, as it involves 3 hours of lectures + (estimated) 1 hour of independent study per day, every day (5 days/week, over 15 weeks/semester). There are no entry requirements for absolute beginners (the program starts from the very basics). Non-beginners can take a placement test to establish their current language proficiency level to be assigned to an appropriate group. The full listed price of this course is 850 EUR. The discount for students is 15%, and the discount for FER employees is 50%. The doctoral students who are employed as researchers at FER are also eligible for the 50% employee discount.

The schedule of the courses is aligned with the academic calendar as announced by Croaticum. For students who wish to a course in the coming semester, there is a mandatory pre-registration procedure, coordinated by FER - for more details, feel free to contact the Registry of Doctoral Studies at the Student Administration Office (doctoral.study@fer.hr).
The deadline to pre-register for the winter semester 2023/2024 is Monday, September 18, 2023 (EOB).
