Bachelor programmes in English

FER offers two bachelor programmes in English. Both study programmes last three years (6 semesters, 180 ECTS points) and offer specializations in the third year.

Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

Electrical Engineering covers the application of physical laws about electromagnetic phenomena in the development of products and services that provide a benefit to mankind. Information technology uses computers, computer networks, communication systems, and technology to sense, process, store, and display information, which today has a significant impact on electrical engineering.

Computing

The principal object of study in Computing is the computer as a universal data processing machine, together with the methods of its application in diverse areas.

About study programmes

FER offers two bachelor programmes:

The first year of study is common to both study programmes. This first year gives the students fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and computing and teaches the students to communicate effectively, and acquaints them with general principles of engineering.

In the second year, the students broaden their knowledge in mathematics and electrical engineering or computing, but also the students are introduced to quality management and principles of economy. To emphasize individual work, they conduct and present a seminar.

In the third year, especially in the 6th semester, specializations are introduced by corresponding mandatory and elective courses, which give some practical knowledge to students who will not continue their studies at the higher, master level. Some knowledge of ecology and law is also given. In the 5th semester, to increase their project management and teamwork competencies, the students in groups of 6 - 8 complete projects. The study finishes after the bachelor thesis is successfully completed and publicly defended.

The students have to attend only about 20 lecture hours per week.

The undergraduate study ends when all mandatory courses are completed and 180 ECTS credits are collected.

Rules of study

All study programmes at FER are taught according to the prerequisite system. For every study programme, a set of mandatory and a set of elective courses have been defined. The student can enrol in all courses for which prerequisites have been completed, amounting to around 30 ECTS credits per semester.

The students are obliged to be present at all forms of teaching. The groups will not exceed the number of 75 students, and the teaching will encompass both the theory and application.

All courses will be graded with points through continuous assessment, consisting of:

  • homework,
  • periodical tests,
  • mid-term exam and
  • the final exam.

Some of the students who gain insufficient points for a passing grade, according to the Faculty statute, will be allowed to take another final exam, within 2 weeks.

Those who fail, along with the students who have gained insufficient points through the semester, have to enrol in the complete course again.
