Job Announcement: Mechanical Research Engineer position in a Horizon Europe Funded Project - deadline for submission - January 26, 2026

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (UNIZG-FER; www.fer.unizg.hr/en), Laboratory for Underwater Systems and technologies (LABUST; https://labust.fer.hr/) is looking for a highly talented mechanical research engineer in an innovative area of underwater bioacoustics, as an application of Internet of Underwater Things. The engineer will be part of the newly established Internet of Underwater Things Research Group (UWIN-LABUST Research Group), in the framework of the Horizon Europe EU funded project “UWIN-LABUST - ERA Chair in Internet of Underwater Things at LABUST” (http://uwin-labust.fer.hr). The UWIN-LABUST project has received 2.5 million EUR funding from the EU Horizon Europe ERA Chair programme, HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-TALENTS-01 Call (please see here for more information about the Call).

Job description:

The UWIN-LABUST Research Group will be part of the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST; https://labust.fer.hr/) at UNIZG-FER. LABUST has significant expertise in marine robotics, obtained through a number of capacity building and research projects. The UWIN-LABUST Research Group will be led by the ERA Chair, Prof. Roee Diamant, Head of the Underwater Acoustic & Navigation Laboratory (ANL) at the University of Haifa that is a partner in the UWIN-LABUST project. ANL is focused on underwater acoustics and develops probabilistic and machine learning algorithms for marine applications.

University of Zagreb Faculty of electrical engineering and computing, Unska 3, Zagreb, hereby announces a public call for applications for appointment to the following positions:

1. Appointment to the associate position of Senior Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of electrical engineering, at the Department of Telecommunications – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to four years).
2. Appointment to the associate position of Senior Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of computing, at the Department of Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer and Intelligent Systems, to work on the project “ALFABEATS: Algorithms of Efficient Biomedical Time Series Analysis” – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to two years).
3. Appointment to the associate position of Senior Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of computing, at the Department of Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer and Intelligent Systems, to work on the project “Hyper-heuristic Traffic Signal Control (IP-2025-02-6043)” – one full-time fixed-term position (for a limited period until November, 2027).
4. Teacher for the teaching position of senior lecturer in the area of ​​social sciences, field of kinesiology at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation – one full-time permanent employee.
5. Appointment to the associate position of Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of electrical engineering or field of computing, at the Department of Control and Computer Engineering, to work on the project „FITNESS - Flexible InteligenT NEar-field Sensing Skins” – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to six years).
6. Appointment to the associate position of Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of computing, at the Department of Electric Machines, Drives and Automation, to work on the project „Enhanced Pilot Interfaces and Interactions for fighter Cockpit - EPIIC” – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to six years).
7. Appointment to the associate position of Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of computing, at the Department of Electronic Systems and Information Processing, to work on the project „ClimEmpower - User Driven Climate Applications Empowering Regional Resilience” – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to six years).
8. Appointment to the associate position of Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of computing, at the Department of Electronic Systems and Information Processing, to work on the project „A cross-border approach to improve landslide risk assessment using LiDAR-based landslide inventory”” – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to six years).
9. Appointment to the associate position of Assistant in the area of technical sciences, field of electrical engineering, at the Department of Energy and Power Systems, to work on the project „Advancing Renewable Energy in the Adriatic Ionian Region through the Use of Digital Twins (GoToTwin)” – one full-time fixed-term position (for up to six years).

University of Zagreb Faculty of electrical engineering and computing hereby announces a public call for applications for appointment to the following position:

1. Project Associate – Researcher at the Department of Communication and Space Technologies to work on the project “Scalable System of Cameras and Optical Filters for Application in Industry - SKORPI (NPOO.C3.2.R3-I1.04.0033) funded within the framework of the open call for project proposals for the award of grants for Targeted Scientific Research (NPOO.C3.2.R3-I1.04)” – one fixed-term position until March 31, 2026 with half of full-time work, and from April 1, 2026 until December 31, 2026 full-time work.
