Biography

Alan Jović was born on September 24th, 1982 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated with a degree in computer science at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in 2006. He received his Ph.D. at FER in 2012. During his doctoral studies, he attended two seminars abroad: in Leuvenu, Belgium, 2007, and in Marktoberdorf, Germany, 2008. He worked as expert assistant at the Institute Rudjer Boskovic, Zagreb (09/16 - 03/17), as assistant, senior assistant and assistan professor (06/16) at FER, department ZEMRIS.

 

He received awards: "Vera Johanides" award for young scientist, awarded by Croatian Academy of Engineering for year 2016, "Josip Lončar" silver plaque for particularly successful doctoral dissertation and scientific work in ac. year 2011/2012, awarded by FER; and award for 2nd place in the young investigator category at MEDICON 2010 conference, awarded by IFMBE.

 

He participated in an international project (European FP6 project "HEARTFAID", Institute Rudjer Boskovic) and in a Croatian Ministry of Science project ("Computer environments for ubiquituous distributed systems", FER). He was the principal investigator of Croatian Foundation for Science early career project "A software system for parallel analysis of multiple heterogeneous time series with application in biomedicine", MULTISAB. (2015.-2018.). He is currently collaborator on an industrial IRI Croatian project

 

He received Croatian scientific title of "higher scientific associate" in the area of technical sciences, the field of computer science on Feb. 9, 2018. According to currently valid Croatian scientific categorization, he is the author of 11 papers in A journals (CC, SCI, SCI-E) in technical sciences, 3 papers in B (Scopus, Inspec) journals, 3 papers in other journals and 34 papers in proceedings of international conferences, out of which he personally presented 11 papers. He currently has: 80 citations (71 without self-citations) in WoS Core Collection, 371 citations in Scopus, and 683 citations in Google Scholar databases. He reviewed about 100 papers for international journals and conferences.

 

He is associate editor for the scientific journal "CIT. Journal of Computing and Information Technology" from 2014 and managing editor of the same journal from 2018. He was a program committee member for several international conferences. He is a member of IEEE and EMBS.

 

He held courses (laboratory exercises and teaching) as assistant and senior assistant from 2007 till today at FER. He held 4 courses in graduate and 3 courses in undergraduate studies. He is an author of 1 book and 1 teaching script. He was a supervisor of graduate and undergraduate students.

 

He is a co-inventor of 1 Croatian patent: "Kontrola kvalitete automatizirane obročne proizvodnje upotrebom proširene teselacijske entropije procesnih signala." (in English: "Quality control in automatic batch production using expanded tessellation entropy of process signals"). He published 1 expert paper at an international conference. He participated in 1 industrial project in the field of data mining as chief project architect.

 

His professional areas of interest include: knowledge discovery in datasets, application of computing in medicine and knowledge representation in computer systems.

 

He speaks Croatian (maternal), English (~C1), German (~B1) and French (~B1).
