Short description of project
NATO Science for Peace and Security project “Multidisciplinary Metrics for Soldier Resilience Prediction and Training” (id. no. 984829, project leader: Prof. Krešimir Ćosić) is focused on understanding of soldiers’ stress resilience. To this end, the project combines together broad clusters of multidisciplinary markers, which include genomic, biological, physiological, acoustic, facial and EEG features, as well as self-report information, expert evaluations, and brain imaging data. Distinction between stress resilient and stress vulnerable individuals is based on machine learning and big data analytics on these heterogeneous multidisciplinary datasets. State-of-the-art wearable devices and validated machine learning methods and models can provide valuable predictive information, important for preventive cognitive behavioral resilience building training interventions. This 3-year project is conducted in partnership with prominent research institutions from Israel, United States and Croatia: Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital, Jerusalem, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, and several top Croatian medical institutions.

Projekt NATO Science for Peace and Security „Multidisciplinary Metrics for Soldier Resilience Prediction and Training” (id. br. 984829, voditelj projekta: Prof. Krešimir Ćosić) usmjeren je na razumijevanje otpornosti na stres u vojnika. S ovim ciljem, projekt objedinjuje razne skupine multidisciplinarnih markera, koji se odnose na genomičke, biološke, fiziološke, akustičke, facijalne i EEG značajke, informacije dobivene samoprocjenama, te evaluacijama od strane eksperata, kao i podatke dobivene tehnikama oslikavanja mozga. Razlikovanje pojedinaca otpornih na stres i vulnerabilnih pojedinaca zasniva se na strojnom učenju i analizi velikih skupova podataka (engl. big data) koja se provodi na navedenim heterogenim multidisciplinarnim podacima. Primjenom suvremenih nosivih uređaja i validiranih metoda i modela strojnog učenja moguće je doći do dragocjenih prediktivnih informacija, koje su važne i za preventivne kognitivno bihevioralne pristupe treningu jačanja otpornosti na stres. Ovaj trogodišnji projekt provodi se u partnerstvu s istaknutim istraživačkim institucijama iz Izraela, Sjedinjenih Američkih Država i Hrvatske: Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital, Jerusalem, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, Institut Ruđer Bošković, Zagreb, te nekoliko vrhunskih hrvatskih medicinskih institucija.
