LISS partnered with INETEC – Institute for Nuclear Technology, Zagreb, Croatia in a project “SMART EC – Diagnostic system for eddy current testing” financed by HAMAG-BICRO through Operational Programme "Competitiveness and cohesion" of the European Regional Development Fund (Strengthening the economy by applying research and innovation, IRI-2).
The objective of this three-year project is research and development of new probes and diagnostic systems for non-destructive testing of flat and curved surfaces and welds of industrial systems using the eddy current method. The new probes will be developed that, thanks to their construction, shape and electronic solutions, provide highly reliable data on the condition of planar structures and welds regardless of the material of the object and in conditions of variable and unknown probe lift-off from the object. The main goal of diagnostic systems is to provide reliable information about the condition of the test object through automated processing of probe signals and detection and classification of indications and changes in the test object. Project activities require a multidisciplinary team of researchers from INETEC and FER in the fields of mechanical engineering, sensor electronics, computational electromagnetism, signal processing and machine learning.
