It is an honour to inform you that on the grand opening of th 47th CIGRÉ Congress  prof. Ivo Uglešić was awarded the prestigious Fellow Award CIGRÉ recognition!

ŽIVOTOPIS:

Ivo Uglešić received the Ph.D. degree in 1988 at the University of Zagreb and presently works as a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing Zagreb. Acting as a full professor, he has cooperated with a number of institutions and companies throughout the region and along the world, solving complex technical problems and successfully applying the results of his researches and solutions in practice. His scientific and professional work includes areas of high voltage engineering, overvoltage protection, electric power transmission and electric traction. In addition he is the head of the High Voltage Laboratory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing Zagreb, which is accredited by the Croatian Accreditation Agency. He is the author of numerous scientific and professional papers as well as many studies and technical solutions that have been implemented in the practice. He is a member of the international Cigré Study Committee C4, System Technical Performances, a member of the technical committee of the International Conference on Power System Transients (IPST) and a reviewer for the journals IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, Electric Power Systems Research and International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems Prof. Uglešić participated in Cigré international colloquiums acting as a chairman of the colloquium "Application of Line Surge Arresters in Power Distribution and Transmission Systems " (Cavtat, Croatia 2008); as a technical committee member of the colloquium "Power Quality and Lightning" (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2010) and "Lightning and Power System" (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2012) as a chairman of the technical committee of the colloquium “Lightning and Power Systems” (Lyon, France, 2014), and as a co-chairman of the technical committee of the colloquiums “Lightning and Power Systems” (Bologna, Italy 2016 and Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2017). Prof. Uglešić was granted by the Technical Committee Award for 2012 for his remarkable work in the study committee „System Technical Performance“ of the International Council on Large Electric Systems – CIGRE. In acknowledgement of his collaboration on the work of the CIGRE, the Administrative Council of Cigre has honoured prof. Uglešić with the title of Distinguished Member, assigned to the most prominent members. In 2012. prof. Uglešić was awarded with the Golden Plaque "Josip Lončar" for his outstanding teaching and research work at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. Professor Uglešić wrote a number of internal educational publications and prepared scripts and presentations for lectures and organized course websites and he is the holder of the number of subjects in teaching. Throughout the teaching activities, prof. Uglešić successfully transferred knowledge to students, young researchers and professionals. Numerous master's and doctorate students graduated under his mentorship, many of which are now prominent scientists and experts in the industry, institutes and universities.

Department of Energy and Power Systems was founded at the 129th Faculty Council’s Regular Session of the Technical College University of Zagreb, on Tuesday June 26, 1934. Department of Energy and Power Systems studies and innovates in the fields of generation, transmission, distribution and use of electrical energy, energy efficiency, high voltage engineering, smart grids, energy management, nuclear engineering and safety, electricity markets, and electric vehicles. Throughout the years, the Department has become the leading authority in the field of electrical power engineering in the region, maintaining long-term collaboration with the industry sector. Furthermore, it is recognized through its research activities and a large number of published scientific papers in JCR journals, as well as numerous national and international research projects. In total, the Department has 52 employees (16 Professors – 9 Full, 4 Associate and 3 Assistant) and offers substantial educational and R&D facilities, including five Research Laboratories, six department teaching halls and a department library. Through its activities, the Department has developed valuable international collaboration with many research institutions around the world. Researchers of the Department are currently involved in 3 HORIZON 2020 projects, 2 bilateral projects, 1 Erasmus+ project, 5 projects financed by the Croatian Science Foundation, as well as the principal investigators of a number of industry-funded projects.
