Short description of project
OpenIoT-Enlarged aims at: 1) establishing new cooperation links thus overcoming the currently limited level of cooperation of UNIZG-FER with OpenIoT partners to enable exchange of knowledge and improve the scientific visibility of UNIZG-FER; 2) tapping into and synergistically boosting the research potential of UNIZG-FER in the area of large scale IoT applications to be provisioned in cloud environments for better integration into European Research Area; and 3) enlarging the community that can benefit from innovative use of OpenIoT outcomes, and enabling knowledge transfer of OpenIoT results to Croatian industry and other interested stakeholders. In view of reaching the above target, UNIZG-FER as an additional partner in OpenIoT will increase its own, as well contribute to the consortium’s level of expertise in the following areas: 1) large-scale publish/subscribe middleware systems for mobile internet-connected objects and 2) Quality of Service (QoS) negotiation and adaptation for utility-based IoT services. The increased level of expertise will broaden the scope of the OpenIoT project by adding five new tasks, as well as speed up developments in the existing ten tasks in which UNIZG-FER will “join forces” with the current partners. In terms of technology advancement, OpenIoT-Enlarged extends the original OpenIoT work plan by focusing on mobility and QoS aspects of utility-based IoT services. In addition, OpenIoT-Enlarged proposes an environmental monitoring deployment to validate the built infrastructure and to make significant impact on local stakeholders in Croatia. With Croatia becoming a Member State in 2013, the participation of UNIZG-FER in OpenIoT will proactively work towards wider participation in ICT research across all, including new, Member States. Also, the knowledge and experience gained through participation in OpenIoT-Enlarged will increase the UNIZG-FER team capabilities to apply for and acquire future FP/Horizon 2020 projects.
