Zdenko Simic has participated with invited presentation.

Zdenko Simic has presented invited presentation at the IEEE Power Energy Society chapter chairs. The presentation title was “Nuclear Energy Status and Perspective after Fukushima” where risk and safety issues related to the nuclear power plants were discussed in the light of recent accident in Japan.

PowerTech is the anchor biannual conference of the IEEE Power & Energy Society in Europe. It is intended to provide a forum for electric power engineering scientists and engineers to share ideas, results of their scientific work, to learn from each other as well as to establish new friendships and maintain existing ones. The event is sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy Society and it is organized by Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), SINTEF Energy Research and IEEE PE Norway Chapter.

Especially important, interesting and relevant topics were the following: Restructuring of the electricity industry and transnational networks; Planning and operation of power systems under market conditions; System services in deregulated markets; Renewable energy sources and storage devices; Integration of distributed generation in the main grids; Developing the concept of “smart grids”; Cascading emergencies and blackouts: preventive and corrective actions; Artificial intelligence techniques in power systems; Diagnostics and reliability; Power system protection; Power system communication; Wide area monitoring and control systems.
