Životopis
Zvonimir Šipuš je rođen 12. ožujka 1964. godine u Zagrebu. Diplomirao je i magistrirao na Elektrotehničkom fakultetu u Zagrebu 1988. godine, odnosno 1991. godine, a doktorirao je 1997. godine na Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Švedska.
Od prosinca 1988. godine do srpnja 1993. godine bio je zaposlen u Institutu Ruđer Bošković, Zagreb, u Laboratoriju za poluvodiče. Sudjelovao je u razvoju uređaja za mjerenje koncentracije eksplozivnih plinova zasnovanih na poluvodičkim senzorima. Od kolovoza 1993. godine radi na Zavodu za komunikacijske i svemirske tehnologije, Fakultet elektrotehnike i računarstva, Zagreb, gdje je i danas u svojstvu redovitog profesora. Od rujna 1994. godine do listopada 1997. godine nalazio se na znanstvenom usavršavanju na Department of Microwave Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Švedska, gdje je bio doktorski student. Na istom je sveučilištu u jesen 1999. godine izabran u zvanje gostujući istraživač (Adjunct Researcher) s obvezom da šest tjedana godišnje pomaže u istraživačkom radu i u poslijediplomskoj nastavi. Tu aktivnost je obavljao do 2005. godine. Od 2006. godine obavlja nastavu i u Europskoj doktorskoj školi iz antena (European School of Antennas).
Znanstvenoistraživačka djelatnost Zvonimira Šipuša vezana je uz analizu mikrovalnih antena i antenskih nizova, uz numeričke metode u elektromagnetizmu te uz svjetlovodne komunikacijske i senzorske sustave. Na području analize mikrovalnih antena i antenskih nizova radio je na modeliranju konformnih antenskih nizova, na modeliranju periodičkih elektromagnetskih struktura (metamaterijala , metapovršina, periodičkih struktura s višim stupnjem simetrije, frekvencijski selektivnih površina), kao i na analizi mekih i tvrdih elektromagnetskih površina. Na području numeričkih metoda u elektromagnetizmu radio je na primjeni metode momenata na razne elektromagnetske zadaće, na razvoju općeg algoritma za izračunavanje Greenovih finkcija za planarne, cilindrične i sferne višeslojne strukture te na primjeni aproksimativnih rubnih uvjeta u analizi raznih konformnih periodičkih struktura. Zadnjih je nekoliko godina sudjelovao u analitičkom modeliranju zračenja antena za komunikacijske i senzorske sustave usmjerene na ljudsko tijelo te u izvodu fundamentalnih ograničenja za implantirane antene. Na području svjetlovodnih komunikacijskih i senzorskih sustava radio je na razvoju optičkih komponenti za novu generaciju pristupnih mreža, kao i na razvoji optičkih senzorskih sustava.
Prof. Šipuš redoviti je član Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti. Dobitnik je državne godišnje nagrade za znanost za 2006. godinu, te Zlatne plakete Josip Lončar Fakulteta Elektrotehnike i računarstva 2023. godine. Zvonimir Šipuš je oženjen i otac je dvoje odrasle djece.
