Laboratory for Nuclear Energy and Safety

Nuklearna energija je nisko ugljična alternativa fosilnim gorivima za baznu proizvodnju električne energije jer ne ispušta ugljikov dioksid i metan u okoliš. Druga važna prednost je bitno veći faktor raspoloživosti i predvidljivosti u odnosu na alternativne izvore energije. Karakterizira ju niža cijena proizvedene električne energije zbog niske cijene goriva i malog udjela koji cijena goriva ima u cijeni proizvodnje. Dostupnost goriva nije podložna većim ni bržim promjenama. Nuklearna energija značajno doprinosi energetskoj neovisnosti i sigurnosti snabdijevanja električnom energijom.

Laboratorij za nuklearnu energiju i sigurnost okuplja istraživače sa Zavoda za visoki napon i energetiku, kao i neke vanjske suradnike tog Zavoda. Aktivnosti laboratorija su usmjerene na znanstveno‐istraživački i stručni rad te specijalistička obrazovanja iz nuklearne energetike i nuklearne sigurnosti. Djelatnici ovog laboratorija su stekli iskustvo i reference na međunarodnim projektima na području: analiza i razvoja novih reaktorskih sustava, primjene računalnih programa u analizama sigurnosti, ocjenama sigurnosti i pouzdanosti nuklearne elektrane, kao i na tehničko-ekonomskim analizama nuklearne opcije. Laboratorij posjeduje računalnu opremu i niz relevantnih računalnih programa za analize sigurnosti nuklearnog reaktora i elektrane u cjelini.
