In the panel Green Transition of the Power System - R&D Projects, the students could hear how different institutions approach the current changes in power systems, what power and energy topics are hot, and could also hear a discussion on the readiness of the electricity market for the accelerated energy transition.
Among the presenters were our researchers, Nikolina Čović, who presented the project REANIMATION oriented at revitalizing and maximally exploiting the full set of functionalities of our Demand Response Laboratory, and Tomislav Antić, who presented the Horizon Europe project HEDGE-IoT, focusing on the digitalization and the increase of observability and flexibility of power systems. Professor Hrvoje Pandzic chaired the important and interesting round table in the afternoon session, asking relevant questions that helped to learn the importance of different entities in the accelerated energy transition.
On May 21st, we were warmly welcomed by our colleagues at HPP Senj. The first visit was to the machinery compartment, where we could hear a lot of interesting facts about different parts of the HPP and the functionality of the HPP as a whole. After that, we visited the dispatch centre responsible not only for the HPP Senj but also for all other HPPs within the Centar Proizvodnje Zapad. From the dispatchers, we heard about the challenges and the interesting everyday work. We also learned a lot about their role and how they contribute to the efficient, safe, and reliable planning and operation of the European power system.
We are already looking forward to the next year’s conference and the possibility for our students to gain experience and hear first-hand stories and suggestions from the Croatian power system experts.
