IRES‐8 –“Instigation of Research and Innovation Partnership on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy Solutions for Cities” is a collaboration between the Universities of Manchester, Bologna, Zagreb and Norwegian University of Science and Technology with four partner institutions in China: Tsinghua University, Beijing Jiaotong University, North China Electric Power University and the State Grid Smart Grid Research Institute.
IRES‐8 funds EU PhD students and early career researchers to spend extended periods of between 3 and 9 months to pursue strategically important low carbon energy research at one of the internationally regarded Chinese partner institutions.
Long term prosperity in the EU energy sector requires access to global leading research, and collaboration with China to better understand of their mature technical infrastructure and state of the art facilities will begin to rebalance the EU-China partnership.
