ŠUZA - "From school to science and the academic community"

Students attending the computing workshop at FER

The popularization of science program “ŠUZA – from school to science and the academic community” is the new official popularization of science program of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER). The Program is intended for primary and secondary education students and their teachers. Through visits to schools, educational workshops for teachers and events at the Faculty their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields is encouraged.

FER’s partners in this Program are the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) and the student association eSTUDENT. The program is developed in cooperation and with the support of the Education and Teacher Training Agency (AZOO) and the Agency for Vocational Education and Training and Adult Education (ASOO).

Scientific Saturday at FER

At Saturday, March 15th, at Faculty of electrical engineering and computing will be held “Scientific Saturday at FER”, starting 10am. This science popularization event is organized by Society of education outside of the box- EVO with cooperation of Faculty of electrical engineering and computing Zagreb, and its science popularization team “ŠUZA- from school to science and academic community”. The event is also supported by eSTUDENT and Croatian IEEE section representative dr.sc. Iva Bojić.

For participating in “Scientific Saturday at FER” is obligatory to fill a form at http://tinyurl.com/ISprijave. The number of attendants is limited!

“Scientific Saturday at FER” is a one-day event intended for high school students. The project is based on idea of Summer science school, which is organized by Society of education outside of the box for almost 13 years, first 12 in Višnjan and last year in Požega. The Google enabled this project by giving the prestige Google RISE (Roots in Science) award to the ŠUZA.

The workshops will provide to the event’s students to learn about electrical engineering and computing on a new, practical, level. The enthusiasm towards science and knowledge will be expanded with the help of young FER’s students. They will show them through various workshops how can a computer recognize a map, how do computers communicate via Internet, and also how can computers think like lawyer, doctor or even scientist, how can anybody program microcontroller or make a 3D game in Unity and many other things. The attendants also have the opportunity to visit FER’s ACROSS scientific center, in which are held many scientific researches in robotics field. In ACROSS center will be held a lecture by prof. dr. sc. Jan Šnajder, and there will be presented the abilities of modern robotics and some new informations regarding Machine learning. With workshops, lectures and laboratory visits the “Scientific Saturday at FER” will also have a presentation of ex “Summer science school” and “Youth research center” student’s works.
