Swedish high school students and their colleagues from the ISI high school of Zagreb, visited the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing on Wednesday, 20th March 2013. The visit was made as part of FER's popularization of science program ŠUZA, with a focus on mobile application development. Therefore, students visited the Department of Applied Computing and the Department of Telecommunications and attended the lecture "Design: UX and UI".

Analog computer operation demonstration (ZPR)
At FER's Department of Applied Computing (ZPR) Prof Ivica Botički PhD introduced the Department and the study of computing at FER in the context of mobile application development. Neven Drljević BSc presented the application Sortko, as an example of an application that students are equipped to make after finishing their undergraduate studies, while Sebastijan Wieser BSc and Tara Oroz BSc demonstrated the Communicator, an application for assisting children with autism, as an example of a somewhat more complex system needing Master-level competencies. Tomislav Jagušt MSc guided the visitors on a trip back in time to the very beginnings of computing with a demonstration of analog computers.
Tablet application presentation (ZTEL)
At the Department of Telecommunications (ZTEL) Jurica Babić MSc demonstrated assisted communications applications for persons with complex communication needs. Hrvoje Maračić MSc demonstrated the application FerDroid which allows FER students simple access to faculty online services, while Aleksandar Antolić MSc demonstrated a real-time air quality measurement system. Alse presented was a multiplatform face tracking technology for iOS devices developed at the Department in cooperation with swedish firm Visage Technologies. Finally, Marko Pavelić BSc demoed his application AndroLibry, a library user support application.
After visiting the departments students had an opportunity to listen to the lecture "Design: UX and UI" organized as part of the App Start Contest. The lecturers from Five Minutes Ltd, a renowned Croatian mobile application and UX development firm, informed visitors about the importance of good design on market success of mobile applications.
