Short Curriculum Vitae

 

Born in 1952 in Kupjak (Gorski kotar), he received Dipl.ing., M.Sc.CS and Ph.D.CS degrees, all from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in 1975, 1978, 1985 respectively.

 

In 1977 M. Žagar joined FER and since then was involved in different scientific projects, educational activities, improvements of the educational programs, laboratories and computer equipment at the FER. He received British Council fellowship (UMIST - Manchester, 1983) and Fulbright fellowship (UCSB - Santa Barbara, 1983/84).

Publications: M. Žagar is author and coauthor of many articles. He is also author and coauthor of the books (in Croatian language):

Current positions:

  • Tenure professor at the chair Computer Systems and Processes (RASIP) with the courses: Open Computing, Computers and Processes, Microcomputers, Software Engineering, Distributed Software Development and some others

  • Member (and honorable president) of the Croatian Open Systems Users' Group - HrOpen

  • Senior member of the Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences

  • IEEE/CS Senior Member
  • Leader of the several international and domestic project

 

In the academic years 94/95, 95/96 he was vice-dean at the FER, from 1993 Governing board member and from 1995-1998 Executive board member of the European Forum for Open Systems - EurOpen, head of the computing facilities at FER from 1987-2009 (23 years).

Current professional interests: computer architectures, real-time microcomputer systems, distributed computing and distributed measurements/control (every box must have two connectors - one for the power cord and the other one for the networking), design automation, open computing, ubiquitous computing, pervasive computing, Java World, UNIX operating system, multimedia, e-learning.

M. Žagar is married, has two children, likes mountains in Gorski kotar, and Adriatic sea in the summer time, skiing in the winter time, music and do-it-yourself in any free time.
