Technology Transfer Officer position in a Horizon Europe Funded Project - deadline for submission - October 15, 2025

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (UNIZG-FER; www.fer.unizg.hr/en), Laboratory for Underwater Systems and technologies (LABUST; https://labust.fer.hr/) is looking for a highly talented Technology Transfer Officer (TTO) in an innovative area of Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT). The TTO will be part of the newly established Internet of Underwater Things Research Group (UWIN-LABUST Research Group), in the framework of the Horizon Europe EU funded project “UWIN-LABUST - ERA Chair in Internet of Underwater Things at LABUST” (http://uwin-labust.fer.hr). The UWIN-LABUST project has received 2.5 million EUR funding from the EU Horizon Europe ERA Chair programme, HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-TALENTS-01 Call (please see here for more information about the Call).

Job description:

The UWIN-LABUST Research Group will be part of the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST; https://labust.fer.hr/) at UNIZG-FER. The UWIN-LABUST Research Group will be led by the ERA Chair, Prof. Roee Diamant, Head of the Underwater Acoustic & Navigation Laboratory (ANL) at the University of Haifa that is a partner in the UWIN-LABUST project. the TTO will ensure sustainability of excellence and research results by incorporating research and innovation management measures within the team and the UNIZG-FER environment. The TTO’s responsibilities and obligations include:

  • monitor ongoing research for early identification of intellectual property arising from research projects
  • develop and advise on optimum protection and commercialization strategies in collaboration with colleagues
  • build market knowledge and a high level of understanding of relevant market sectors
  • implement commercial strategies including negotiating licence agreements, establishing start-up companies
  • develop and support relationships between industry and academia at all stages of research engagement
  • lead and work on the development of business models for the exploitation of UWIN-LABUST group technologies
  • manage and lead technology transfer projects, participate in the competitive project financing
  • assist in the definition of and implement sustainability strategy of the UWIN-LABUST group,
  • actively participate in the establishment of the Technology Transfer Office of the UWIN-LABUST group, and coordinate its activities
  • liaise with the public relations office of UNIZG-FER in order to improve the effectiveness of reach-out initiatives
  • organize, participate, and contribute to research and innovation management training sessions

Required candidate’s qualifications and experience:
  • Doctoral degree (or close to finishing) in engineering, physics, robotics, management, economy or closely related domains.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Capability to work autonomously, entrepreneurial attitude, lifetime learner, team worker.
Desired candidate’s qualifications, experience and skills:
  • Background in entrepreneurship, management, technology transfer.
  • Experience with maritime technologies.

 

Our offer to the ERA UWIN-LABUST Fellows:

The selected candidate will be offered the following:

  • A full-time employment contract up to the project end (December 31, 2027).
  • An internationally competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, an attractive remuneration package, pension scheme, health insurance, and a minimum of 24 working days of an annual vacation.
  • Substantial travel budget for conference attendance and networking.
  • Support for relocation and settling in the City of Zagreb.

Recruitment process:

The TTO will be recruited through an open, transparent, and merit-based selection process fully in compliance with the European Charter for Researchers and the EU Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The process will be carried out by the Recruitment Committee consisting of the ERA Chair holder, the UWIN-LABUST project coordinator, and three external members. Selection of the best applicants will be accomplished in two rounds.

In the application screening round, candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Technology transfer outputs (40%), Fundraising abilities (17%), Management & leadership capabilities (16%), International visibility & mobility (10%), Outreach & knowledge transfer (5%); Other TT activities (5%), Adequacy of the candidate’s profile (5%), Other merits (2%).

In the second round, up to three best ranked applicants will be invited for a teleconference interview to assess their skills. The contract will be offered to the candidates with the highest final score.
