Kisek meeting in Paderborn

From November 24th to 26th, 2008., Tempus Kisek project partners had the opportunity to meet in Paderborn, Germany, the historical city with a 1200 years of history, combined with the modern architecture and one of the biggest computer museums.

We were guests of the University of Paderborn, Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, who are our Kisek project grantholders. This was an opportunity to learn more about the experience of our EU partner, in education, cooperation of academia and industry, and some important bodies - centers, which can for us be the examples of a succesful SE cooperation, and provide us with help for further establishing of our SE Competence centers.

For more information, visit the Paderborn meeting page, or take a look at Paderborn meeting presentations.

Kisek meeting at the SoftCOM conference

During the SoftCOM conference, from September 26th to 27th, two Tempus Kisek events have taken place in Split and Dubrovnik:

  • Tempus Kisek project meeting
  • Round table at SoftCOM conference: "Software Engineering in Croatia: Towards the skills-based society?"

These events, especially the round table, enabled us to disseminate the current project results and projects goals to the broader audience of IT experts and university staff from Croatia and abroad.

FER - MdH cooperation on diploma thesis

The successful cooperation between University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing and our EU-partners in Tempus project Kisek, Mälardalen University in Västerås, Sweden has been brought to a higher level.

For the last five years these two universities organize the joint graduate course "Distributed Software Development (DSD)", an elective course for the final year of computing, on both sides simultaneously, with the great assistance of modern computer technologies for distance teamwork. This course offers students to gain experience of working on the real-life projects in a distributed environment, while communicating with students from different countries.

As an extension to this course cooperation, this year, for the first time in history of FER, three students, Ana Petričić, Juraj Feljan and Luka Lednicki, have successfully written and defended their diploma thesis on both universities, FER and MdH..

The first Kisek meeting outside Croatia was held in Västerås, the fifth city by population in Sweden, from March 31th to April 1st, 2008. Participants were project partners from Croatia, (from universities, companies and professional associations), Paderborn University project partners from Germany (UPB), and our hosts, partners from Mälardalen University (MdH), who have invited lots of interesting guests from University and Swedish companies.

The purpose of this meeting and visit to Mälardalen University, was to analyse educational models and organisation of cooperation between academia and industry, both in Sweden and in Paderborn University (Germany). Both universities maintain strong cooperation in the joint projects between universities and companies, where partners have the mutual interests and benefits, such as science research for companies or real-life problems for academia.

For more information, visit the Västerås meeting page, or take a look at Västerås meeting presentations.

As a part of the efforts put in Kisek project outcomes in a field of Software Engineering in education, a collaboration between Kisek and another Tempus project in Croatia was established. This Tempus project is called Eqibelt (Education Quality Improvement by e-learning Technology), coordinated by the University of Zagreb, University Computing Centre.

On October 26th, 2007., an invited lecture was held on Eqibelt's 3rd Policy Workshop on Pedagogical Opportunities of E-Learning. Prof. Mario Žagar, Kisek coordinator and professor of Computing, was presenting a topic "Distributed Software Development Course - Student Experience", a project-oriented distributed course in Software Engineering.
