A research group from Stanford University in California (USA) has published this year’s study on scientific citation, a ranking of the two percent most influential scientists worldwide.
The study evaluates the most influential researchers both over the course of their entire scientific careers and specifically for the year 2024. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) is proud to note that a total of seven of its scientists have been recognized by Stanford as belonging to this select group of leading scholars.
Among those included on the list of the most influential scientists in the world for their overall scientific careers are Academician Professor Sven Lončarić, PhD, in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing / Networking and Telecommunications); Professor Hrvoje Pandžić, PhD, in the field of Enabling and Strategic Technologies (Energy / Electrical and Electronic Engineering); Dr. Roee Diamant, PhD, in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (Networking and Telecommunications / Oceanography); Professor Stjepan Picek, PhD, in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing / Networking and Telecommunications); Professor Silvio Hrabar, PhD, in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (Networking and Telecommunications / Applied Physics); and Professor Damir Žarko, PhD, in the field of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering / Applied Physics).
On the list of the most influential scientists in the world for the year 2024 is Associate Professor Alan Jović, PhD, in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing / Biomedical Engineering). Alongside him, several professors from FER who were already recognized for their overall careers also appear on the annual list: Professor Hrvoje Pandžić, PhD, Dr. Roee Diamant, PhD, Professor Stjepan Picek, PhD, Academician Professor Sven Lončarić, PhD, and Professor Damir Žarko, PhD.

The data are drawn from profiles in the Scopus database, which contains records for more than eight million scientists across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields, according to the standard Science-Metrix classification. This year’s ranking includes 129 scientists affiliated with Croatian institutions, 96 of whom are recognized for their entire scientific careers.
