On Saturday, December 14, 2024, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (FER) promoted 491 university master of engineering graduates, who completed their graduate studies in the academic year 2023/2024. The ceremonial promotion of graduates was opened by the Dean Vedran Bilas, and motivational speeches were given by FER alumni Damir Sabol, co-founder of Photomath, Izabel Jelenić, co-founder of Infobip, and entrepreneur Luka Abrus.
"With a FER degree, you can work anywhere in the world. But there is only one place in the world called home. Together we do new, great things from Croatia for the whole world. Together we are the force that moves and advances Croatia", said Dean Bilas in his opening speech.
Damir Sabol emphasized the role of FER for business and, ultimately, life success: "FER gave me several things that strongly shaped me and laid the foundation for further success in life. I didn't know that right away, but it's very clear to me in today's perspective. FER can be challenging, but the fact that you are here today means that you have been given one of the best starting positions, not only for a good career, but also for a happy and fulfilling life. Enjoy that position, your youth, your great energy, your brave ideas, look for your opportunities, but above all, be yourself and enjoy the journey!".
"Don't drown in the average, don't look for easier paths, choose learning, choose progress for yourself and for your environment. Don't hold anything against the world around you, but go and create your own world!", said Izabel Jelenić.
"Success won't knock on your door by itself. It has to be earned through your work, and when you work without giving up, when you just bite forward, then you don't focus on failures. You have a wonderful period ahead of you. A period in which you can make mistakes, experiment, start over. Today, everyone is in a hurry to advance as quickly as possible, to adorn themselves with a title, to show others that they are successful. But when you are a beginner, the expectations are much lower, and the support you receive is indescribably greater. Everything is a blank sheet of paper and anything is possible", said Luka Abrus.
Petar Sušac, Ivan Budić, Petar Labura, Andrija Gorup and David Kerman, the best students who graduated with honors, also addressed the gathering on behalf of the masters.
