LARICS and LABUST finalists at the...

The Laboratory for Robotics and Intelligent Control Systems - LARICS and the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies - LABUST were selected as finalists of the prestigious MBZIRC robotics competition. The laboratories perform together as the UNIZG-FER team, and so far they have passed three stages of the competition.

In the first phase, they submitted a project proposal (whitepaper phase) and were selected among the 50 best teams. After that, there was a simulation phase where they had to implement the proposed solutions in a simulation environment and were selected for additional evaluation among the best 9 teams. After the visit of the team of judges and the presentation of our laboratories and equipment, as well as discussions with the team members, they were finally selected as finalists (top 5 teams).

Our labs' solution will involve cooperation between unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vehicles to perform complex navigation and manipulation tasks in a marine environment without a Global Positioning System (no GPS). The grand prize is $2 million and the competition will be held in Abu Dhabi in February 2024.
