The Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the Republic of Croatia, H. E. Paula Leal da Silva, visited the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Zagreb on Tuesday, 16 March 2021, where she was received by the Dean of FER, Prof. Gordan Gledec, PhD, and Vice Dean for Science, Prof. Nikola Mišković, PhD.
The Ambassador of Portugal was accompanied by the First Secretary Rodrigo Lobo d'Ávila and Ataché for Culture Tiago Gil.
During the meeting, the two delegations discussed the position and importance of FER in the academic and scientific research community and its positioning at the international level. Particular emphasis was given to the significant collaboration that FER has established for many years with partner institutions from Portugal, reflected in some 30 scientific research projects carried out with almost 20 Portuguese institutions.
After the meeting with the faculty leadership, the Portuguese delegation, accompanied by FER's researcher Faust Ferreire, PhD, (originally from Portugal) visited four FER laboratories. At the beginning, at Smart Grid Laboratory (SGLab), an experienced researcher, Mateo Beus, mag. ing., demonstrated to the guests the remote control of the hydroelectric power plant, followed by a visit to the Laboratory of Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST) in the newly renovated premises in Martinovka Hall, headed by Vice Dean Mišković. After returning to FER, the delegation visited the Laboratory for Renewable Energy Systems (LARES), where Prof. Mario Vašak, PhD, described the application of advanced methods of intelligent energy management on the surface of the skyscraper of FER, after which the guests had the opportunity to experience a beautiful view of the panorama of Zagreb. The visit ended with the presentation of FER's Laboratory for Autonomous Systems and Mobile Robotics (LAMOR) and the presentation of Prof. Ivan Petrović, PhD, who provided some examples from the industry with which LAMOR cooperates thanks to its very competitive research activities.
