Picture Quality in Digital Video Communications

Course Description

Digital video communication systems. The impact of compression technique, compression ratio and frequency content on picture quality. Picture quality in discrete cosine transform and discrete wavelet transform systems. Trade-off between bit rate and picture quality in MPEG-2 video coding. Error detection and correction. Delay and loss of synchronization. Methods for subjective assessment of picture quality and objective measurements of picture impairments.
