Course Description
Digital video communication systems. The influence of compression methods, compression ratio, and frequency content on image quality. Image quality in systems based on the discrete cosine transform and the discrete wavelet transform. The effects of temporal redundancy reduction and applied motion compensation techniques on video quality. Methods for optimizing video encoder operation and managing bit rate and image quality. Application of machine learning and deep learning to coding parameter selection, bit-rate control, distortion reduction, and enhancement of reconstructed image quality. Delay, jitter and loss of synchronization. Error detection, correction and concealment in video signal transmission. Subjective and objective methods for image quality evaluation. Perceptual metrics for image and video quality. Methods for automatic quality assessment based on deep learning.
