Multimedia Computer Systems

Course Description

Overview of multimedia (MM) related problems and solutions and analysis of resource requirements. Basic and advanced data compression algorithms. Human visual system. Multimedia standards JPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, H.265. Comparison of standard and advanced execution of multimedia algorithms. Algorithms and parallel implementations of multimedia applications. Detailed analysis: multimedia ASICs, MM coprocessors, MM processors and MM extensions. System architecture, processor selection and instruction execution examples. Multimedia applications on mobile devices.
