Electric Railways

Course Description

Electric traction vehicles driven by DC and AC motors, modern asynchronous traction drive. Types and features of electric traction vehicles; traction characteristics, power factors, electrodynamic breaks. Technical characteristics of high speed electric railway. Planning of new electrifications. Principle of magnetic levitation and comparison with conventional electric railways. Interoperability of electric railway systems in Europe. Consumption of energy for railways. Environmental effects of electric railway.
