CAD/CAM Systems in Biomedical Engineering

Data is displayed for academic year: 2024./2025.

Course Description

In this course, students gain knowledge about the possibilities of using computers in production, with an emphasis on programming CNC machine tools. Students will master the basics of CAD modeling, manual programming and programming in CAD / CAM systems, especially the application of CAD/CAM systems in the design and manufacture of complex parts in biomedical engineering. They will get acquainted with the application of computers in CMM machines, robots, transport systems, storage, and the needs and possibilities of integration of production equipment using programmable logic controllers-PLC.

Study Programmes

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify the advantages and areas of application of numerically controlled (NC) technology in biomedical engineering
  2. Apply computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems in the design and manufacturing of orthoses and prostheses
  3. Select appropriate materials and apply CAM software for orthopaedic orthoses and prostheses manufacturing
  4. Analyze data on the geometry and loads of selected elements of the locomotor system and predict the necessary elements of orthosis design in order to optimize the load on the foot
  5. Create orthoses, design manufacturing process and generate CNC part program
  6. Lead the team in the design and implementation of specific CAD / CAM solutions for biomedical engineering
