Biography
Adrijan Barić attended the Classical Secondary School in Zagreb and graduated in 1977. He obtained the Diploma Engineering degree (Dipl. Ing) from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in 1982 and he obtained the MSc degree 1985 from the same Faculty. He was awarded the PhD degree from the Dublin City University, Ireland, in 1995. He was on a two-month research visit at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, England, during 1993, and on a six-month postdoc research visit at the Ghent University, Belgium, during 2000.
He is employed by the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing since 1984. He is a full professor since 2008 and since 2013 he is a full professor with permanent position (tenure). He was a principal investigator of two projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of Croatia: ‘Modelling of semiconductor devices and high-speed electronic circuits’ (2002 to 2006) and ‘Signal integrity of mixed-signal integrated circuits’ (2007 to 2010). He was a coordinator of a project funded by the company Compaq, Shrewsbury, USA and Systemcom, Zagreb. From 2003 to 2007 he coordinated the FER research team in the FP6 project „ROBUst mixed signal design methodologies for Smart Power ICs (ROBUSPIC)“. From 2007 to 2009 he coordinated the FER research team in the EUREKA MEDEA+ project Parachute funded by the company AMI Semiconductor (Belgium) in the research area of 'Automotive IC Design for low EMC'. He coordinated the FER research team in the project GoldenGates from 2009 to 2012 funded by the company ON Semiconductor (Belgium) in the research area 'Improvement of Electromagnetic Reliability System Performance by applying Electromagnetic Synergy'. He coordinated the FER research team in the project INVENT (2011 to 2014) funded by the Flanders science foundation IWT and the company ON Semiconductor (Belgium) in the research field 'Integrated Voltage Regulator using Novel Topologies and Devices'. He coordinated the FER research team in the FP7 project 'IMOLA - Intelligent light management for OLED on foil applications' (1 October 2011 to 31 March 2015) (partners on the project IMOLA were: imec (Belgium), TNO (The Netherlands), Philips (Germany), NXP (The Netherlands), NXP (Belgium), Hanita (Israel), Henkel (Belgium), CRP (Italy)). He coordinated the FER research team in the BICRO POC5 project ‘Electro-optical detector for on-chip measurements of broadband current pulses’ (‘Croatian: Elektro-optički detektor za mjerenje širokopojasnih strujnih izboja na čipovima’) (1 Jan 2014 to 31 May 2015) and the FER research team in the project “Wirelessly powered microelectronic circuits for distributed sensor networks” funded by European Structural Funds via the Ministry of Science Education and Sports of Croatia (21 Oct 2014 to 20 Feb 2016).
He presently coordinates the project IVPROBE funded by the company ON Semiconductor (Belgium) in the field of high-bandwidth, high current, high voltage on-chip probing (2015 to 2018), the project “Electromagnetic Compatibility Simulation Environment” on behavioural modelling of analogue electronic circuits in the time domain funded by the company ams AG (Unterpremstaetten, Austria) (1 Sep 2014 to 31 Aug 2017), the project “Advanced design methodology for switching DC-DC converters” funded by the Croatian Science Foundation HRZZ (1 Jun 2015 to 31 May 2019) and the project “Next Generation Highly Integrated RF Gate Drive Circuit for High Switching Speed Semiconductors” funded by the company UTRC Ireland (United Technologies Research Center Ireland) (2016 to 2017).
The research group he lead has designed and sent for processing 9 chips in the CMOS technologies ranging from 130 nm to 350 nm through EUROPRACTICE or MOSIS.
He was the President of the Committee for Research, Development and Technology of the University of Zagreb from 2007 to 2011. From 2006 he has been a member of the Council of Technical Faculties of the University of Zagreb and from 2013 he has been the President of the Council of Technical Faculties of the University of Zagreb.
At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing he was a member and the president of the Committee for Recognition of Academic Degrees (from 1998 to 2006) as well as the president of the Committee for Disciplinary Actions (from 2005 to 2006). He was the vice dean for research at FER from 2006 to 2008. He is a member of the Committee for Research and International Cooperation from 2010 to 2016 and since 2016 a member of the Committee for Research and Innovation. He was a member of the Presidency of AMAC-FER from 2006 till 2015. Since 2015 he is a member of the Supervisory Board of AMAC-FER. He is the Chair of the Department of Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer and Intelligent Systems since 2016. He is the President of the Research and Development Committee of the Innovation Center “Nikola Tesla” since 2016.
He was a General Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems - ICECS 2002, Co-Chair of the IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference - MELECON 2004, Finance Chair of the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics - ISIE 2005, amd Technical Programme Chair of the conference Electromagnetic Compatibility of Integrated Circuits 2011 - EMC Compo 2011. He was a member of the Steering Committee series of the series of conferences IEEE ICECS. He is a member of the Programme Committee of a series of conferences ECCTD and a series of conferences EMC Compo. He is a member of the Programme Committee of the conference IEEE EMC Europe 2017.
He is a member of the societies IEEE, HD MIPRO, KoREMA and AMAC-FER.
He is the recipient of the Golden Plaque “Josip Lončar” for 2015, which is awarded by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb.
