SHORT HISTORY

The Department of electronics has been founded in 1943 at the Technical faculty, and it was named "Department of High-Frequency Techniques." The first head of the Department was prof. dr. Mirko Soukup. The Department was located in three rooms in the Laboratories Building of the Technical Faculty in the Kačić street. In 1945 the Department was without staff and had no activities. Since 1946 the Department has got a new name --  "Department of Radiotechniques" and a new head prof. Vinko Albert, who started to teach Radiotechniques. In 1951 the name "Department of High-Frequency Techniques" is given back to the Department, and in 1963 the Department changed its name to "Department of electronics." In 1994 the Department extended its name to "Department of electronics, microelectronics, computer and intelligent systems."

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Educational activities started in 1943 when the Department has been founded. Prof. Mirko Soukup gave the first lectures in electronics. From 1945 till 1946 the Department was left without staff and had no activities. In 1946 Prof. Vinko Albert joined the Department and started with courses "Radiotechniques" and "Electronic Valves and Applications", and in the next year with “Amplifiers and Receivers.”

In the period until 1961 some new courses were introduced: “Electronics and electronic techniques”, “High-Frequency Techniques”, “Application of electronics in surveying”, “Industrial electronics and Electronics.” In 1961 courses were transformed and renamed: “Electronic devices”, “Electronic circuits I/II”. Some new elective courses were introduced. In that period, in addition to Prof. Albert, special contribution to the development of teaching was made by professors Borislav Juzbašić, Ivan Hruška, and Stanko Turk. In 1967 new courses were introduced: “Pulse and digital electronics”, “Electron devices II”, and some electives.

The activity in computer science resulted in 1971 with the introduction of new courses: “Computer aided Design”, “Digital Computers and some electives.” During the transformation of curricula in 1981, new courses in the field of computer science and microelectronics technology started.
