From May 16th till May 18th, 2012 the meeting with other partners in the FP7 CART project is held at UNIZG-FER-LABUST. More about this project can be found here.

LABUST members (Vukić, Barišić and Mišković) were invited to attend Video Ray boondoggle event in hotel "Colentum" in Murter: The event was held from May 6th till May 13th, 2012. During this event new Video Ray Pro4 ROVs were presented with some interesting new developments from other companies. Some very interesting advancements for Pro4 of Video Ray company are announced that will ensure Video Ray company its firm position on the market for micro ROVs.

On May 8th (Tuesday) Prof. Zoran Vukić, Assist.Prof. Nikola Mišković and Dr.sc. Matko Barišić presented LABUST achievements to President of Republic of Croatia Prof. Ivo Josipović. At the meeting were present also Mr. Zlatko Gareljić - Adviser to the President for the Defence Affairs, lieutenant general Drago Lovrić - Chief of staff of General Staff of the Armed Forces, rear admiral Zdenko Simičić Deputy chief of staff for operations of General Staff of the Armed Forces, brigadier Prof. Dario Matika Director of the Institute for research and development of defence systems-Ministry of Defence. Couple of issues related to cooperation with NATO Undersea Research Centre, with maritime security and especially monitoring of undersea was raised. President supports projects directed toward protection of Adraitic subsea and coastal areas, port security, underwater cultural heritage protection and protection of sailing routes in Adriatic. He supports and urge for coordinated activities with state institutions, security-defence system especially Croatian Navy and the Coast guard.

Nikola Stilinović, Zoran Triska and Viktor Vladić submitted their work titled "Advanced methods of guidance and control of autonomous marine vehicles" for the University of Zagreb Rector's award for academic year 2011/2012. The report describes two autonomous marine vehicles (model of a tanker - CyberShip and autonomous surface platform - PlaDyPos) that were buit by these students. Both vessels were tested in our laboratory, in Brodarski institute and lake Jarun in Zagreb. The report will be available later on on our web site when the results of the evaluation process will be published. 

LABUST presented two papers at the IFAC NGCUV workshop held between April 10-12, 2012 in Porto, Portugal. Round table organized at the workshop initiated some interesting discussions and notes from the discussion can be found here.

Prof. Vukić with 10 other colleagues from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing visited shipyard "Uljanik" Pula on April 23rd, 2012. The topic of our talks was about possible cooperation and initiation of new joint R&D. Prof. Vukić presented LABUST R&D achievements.

The contract for "Breaking the surface" (BtS) field training for three consecutive years 2012, 2013 and 2014 was signed with Office of Naval Research Global. We expect that our BtS, that already won high appraisal among researchers and developers of UST, will remain THE event that everybody wants to attend. More at http://bts.fer.hr

Prof. Antonio Pascoal (IST, Lisbon, Portugal) Dynamical Systems and Ocean Robotics Lab and Massimo Caccia (CNR-ISSIA, Genova, Italy) visited our laboratory between 26.03.2012 and 29.03.2012. Our future coopeartion and project proposals were planned and discussed during their visit.

On March 27th, 2012 the workshop on "Intelligent Underwater Systems and Technologies" (IPSIT2012) was held at FER. The workshop lasted for a day. More information can be obtained here. This was the last of three consecutive workshops organized by LABUST (2010, 2011, 2012) as one of specific support type of action in the CURE project. At IPSIT2012 the round table was organized on "How to make the most of R&D and innovation for the benefit of Croatian economy".

Mr. Matko Barišić, LABUST researcher, defended his Ph.D. thesis on March 26th, 2012. The dissertation title was: “Guidance of formations of autonomous underwater vehicles by virtual potential method”.

Mrs. Signe Redfield, Ph.D., Associate Director, Autonomous and Unmanned Systems from Office of Naval Research - Global, London, UK, visited our laboratory on March 14th, 2012. During her visit she met also with our Dean and visited other laboratories of the Department of Control and Computer Engineering.

On March 8th, the meeting with shipyard "Uljanik" was held at University of Zagreb-Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FAMENA) in Zagreb. The cooperation agreement between "Uljanik" and FAMENA were signed. The meeting covered possible cooperations topics with "Uljanik" and FAMENA, FER and Brodarski institute. LABUST offered its expertise in underwater robotics and technologies. The  next meeting will be held at FER.

In the April issue of the journal "Seapower" (official publication of the Navy League) the article titled "Removing man from minefield - single-minded one-shot autonomous vehicle closes the gap on mine neutralization" written by Mr. Edward Lundquist, is published. The article describes the NATO Undersea Research Center (NURC) project in which LABUST is involved and responsible for the underwater part of the system. To read the article click here.

LABUST participated on the 4th Conference on Marine Technology in memoriam of the academician Zlatko Winkler held on the  November 25 and 26, 2011at Faculty of Engineering University of Rijeka, Croatia (under auspieces of The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts The Department of Technical Sciences).

Students from the Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies visited the Uljanik shipyard in Pula on Monday, October 24th. The visit consisted of a short presentation about Uljanik's activities and job offers and a tour of Veruda, a new bulk carrier being built for Uljanik's shipping company.
