STUDENTS' PROJECTS 2004./2005.

Students' projects 2004./2005.

The second year of the DSD course involved 20 students out of which 9 were from Croatia and 11 from Sweden. All students were divided into 3 smaller mixed groups. Every group consisted of students from both countries. The principle of presentations, milestones, videoconferencing and team work has remained.

Students where divided into three teams that were to continue work from previous year. The projects that were selected for improvement were: CVSQL, CVS Reporting and Chat. These projects were selected because they showed that they can contribute the most to the DSD course. They all were also successful in the first year of the course.

Each team could decide if they wanted to continue work where the project stopped in the previous semester or they wanted to reprogram some parts again. It was assumed that all teams will continue previous work and will not do again what was already done. Therefore expectations for all 3 teams were higher.

CVSQL2

Project that was the sequel of the CVSQL project needed to additionally expand functionality of the server so that it can access more than one CVS repository and also to expand available SQL syntax. This project involved 7 students from which 4 were from Croatia and 3 were from Sweden. In the second year students also decided to split the project into two subprojects, but not to reuse work from the previous year. Although the new program was based on the same ideas as the previous one, it took large amount of time and energy and therefore the result of this project was a little less than expected.

CVS reporting 2

The purpose of the CVS Reporting project was to create two applications; first a plug in for the Eclipse-IDE which would generate templates with a graphical interface and a simple web interface for displaying the results of all projects together. The templates could be used to generate reports through embedded SQL queries and information about any user and their project. This project involved 7 students from which 3 were from Croatia and 4 from Sweden.

Chat 2

The third and final project in the second year was the sequel to the Chat project. The task of this project was to expand the existing software solution with newer versions of chat software and with an additional type of chat software. In this project all information was also needed to be stored in archive for later review. This project involved 6 students from which 2 from Croatia and 4 from Sweden. Result of this project was better and easier interface to track all chat messages in two different programs: Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger. The interface for review of the archived messages was also improved. With continuous usage of the result of this project this team was able not only to document all required project parts but also to archive their complete communication in order to improve tracking of work for all team members.
