What is MOb?
MOb is short for Mass Observation. Main goal of MOb is to support the study of a question or issue through in-situ observations by a collection of people. In other words, if any user has a problem or an issue and he want to get an opinion or observations about it from a collection of people, MOb can provide a way for getting that opinion.
Some examples of use:
· Future student wants to know what is the state of public transportation in
· John wants to travel to
· Amanda wants to make a game where competitors would have to take images of some objects. The first one that captures images of all objects is the winner.
· Jackie wants to buy a pet, but she didn’t yet decide which one se would like. Using MOb she can ask users: which one is their best, how dangerous is to have a snake, to put some images and videos of their pets, …
There are three main user types in MOb: an initiator, an observer and a consumer. Initiator is the user who can post a question or issue in a way of the observation event. Initiator chooses the format of observations. Observer is a user who is helping an initiator by making observations. Observations are made using mobile devices (android application can be downloaded in Download section). Consumer is a user who can view and analyze all the collected data for selected observation event. Image below shows the concept of MOb.
