DICES PROJECT FIRST MEETING REVIEW

The first meeting of the DICES project was held on Monday 2008-03-17 in the Lavica hotel in Samobor, a small town near Zagreb. It was attended by all project members and other parties interested in the project.

The participans came from three different universities: Mälardalen University (MdH) in Västerås, Sweden, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB) in Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) in Zagreb. The project partner from industry, Ericsson Nikola Tesla (ETK), was also present.

This was a good oppportunity for project members to get acquainted with each other and with their previous work.

 

 

 

The discussion was opened with an overview of the DICES project by the main applicant prof. Ivica Crnković. He also presented activities regarding component-based development (CBD) on MdH and the relation between the PROGRESS and DICES projects.

Young researchers from FER, Juraj Feljan, Luka Lednicki and Ana Petričić described the projects they are involved in within their diploma thesis and which are related to DICES project.

Next on the agenda were the coleagues from Split, Darko Stipaničev and Maja Štula, who talked about activities on FESB. They presented the iForestFire system which is intended for early detection of forest fires. iForrestFire will be used to validate built theories and thus enable further development of this system.

 

 

After a short lunch break, The representative of the industry parter ETK, Darko Huljenić described their interests in the project.

After the presentations were done a lively discussion about the project start, progress and goals took place. The discussion ended with a conclusion of DICES as a perspective project which will enhance development of distributed embedded software systems and also prevent brain drain.

One of the topics was also the visit of research group members to Mälardalen University (MdH) in Sweden which will enhance the cooperation between Croatian and Swedish universities.
